A Watsonville woman has been arrested for identity theft. Officials say 34-year-old Samantha Marie Walters tried to cash two stolen checks for over $700 at two local banks. The checks belonged to an 80-year-old woman who lives in Irving, Texas. Walters was arrested on suspicion of grand theft, identity theft, forgery, possession of stolen property, and theft from an elder. She is also on federal probation for intent to distribute drugs. Walters remains in Santa Cruz County Jail in lieu of $125,000 bail. Police are investigating her connection to Michael Ryan Worley, a Santa Cruz man who was also recently arrested on suspicion of identity theft.
