Powder Works Bridge Designated National Historic Landmark – 04/15/15 14:00 P.S.

The California Powder Works Bridge was designated as a National Historic Landmark today. The bridge was constructed in 1872 and spans the San Lorenzo Valley River at Keystone Way in Paradise Park. It was built as part of the California Powder Works, which was the first black powder mill on the West Coast. The Powder Works Bridge, also called the Paradise Park Bridge, is an excellent example of a Smith truss, a nationally-significant timber bridge type, with only 23 historic examples surviving.
