Salinas officials have approved the purchase of body cameras for the city’s police department. Yesterday, the city council voted unanimously to purchase 70 of the devices. The cameras will cost around $400,000, a fourth of which will be paid for by a grant from the Monterey Peninsula Foundation. Police officers will begin using the cameras this summer.
