115 kv Project Application Dismissed – 03/31/15 06:52 S.S.

An application, for a 115 kilovolt re-inforcement project, that Pacific Gas & Electric wanted to do in south Santa Cruz county has been dismissed by the State Public Utilities Commission. That after both PG&E and Cal-Iso confirmed that it won’t be needed for at least 10 years. The proposed project would have added a second 115 kilovolt transmission line to a 7.1-mile circuit through the communities of Day Valley and Corralitos, as well as a portion of Watsonville. To string that new transmission line, they would have erected more than 80 steel power poles (that are double the height of the current wooden poles), destroy hundreds of trees, build helicopter landing pads in an orchard and fields, and permanently remove all vegetation around the poles with herbicides. The plan to construct the industrial-scale project (through organic farms, rural neighborhoods, and scenic open space) was deemed not to be environmentally responsible….and not needed to maintain the reliability of the power grid.
