Latino Civil Rights Activists Allege King City Voting Rights Violations. -3/29/15-1800-PMD

Latino civil rights activists allege King City voting rights violations. Assembly member Luis Alejo, the League of United Latin American Citizens, and the Tri-County Association of Latin Elected Officials believe Latino voters are being disenfranchised by the current system that allows all residents to vote on the council positions, and say dividing the over 90 percent Hispanic city of 12,000 into five districts to elect council members from would provide proper representation. City officials say the city is to small for 5 districts and low minority voter turn out may be the reason only of the council members is Hispanic. Activists are threatening legal action if the issue isn’t on the next ballot.
