Monterey county supervisors have declined to move ahead with a temporary ban on fracking (that the Monterey County Planning Commission recommended nearly a year ago). Supervisors want the state to finalize it’s rules on “well stimulation treatments” first….and those should go into effect this summer. Since there are no known fracking operations currently in the county, and no fracking applications, at least 1 supervisor doubts the county would have a legal basis for the moratorium….because there is no immediate threat to public health or safety.
