UCSC Students Suspended, Community Demands Expulsion- 3/05/15 07:30 S.G.

Santa Cruz community members have created a petition to expel the students who blocked Highway 1 this week. Six protesters shut down the roadway Tuesday morning to protest UC tuition hikes and police brutality. All six were arrested on various charges including conspiracy and creating a public nuisance. The demonstration prevented a number of residents from getting to work or making appointments, prompting community members to create a petition demanding the students be expelled. UCSC officials say the petition will not influence their decision on disciplinary action. The students have been suspended for two weeks. An expulsion hearing is expected to take place during that time.
