A woman died Saturday afternoon at Monastery Beach in Carmel. The woman was taking pictures of the ocean when a wave pulled her out to sea. One of her friends briefly got stuck in the waves while trying to save her. Two visitors were able to get the woman out of the water and perform CPR, but she died shortly thereafter at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. There have been at least 17 deaths at Monastery Beach since 1985.
