UC Santa Cruz Study Reveals Pay Inequity for Female, Minority Faculty- 2/23/15 10:30 S.G.

A study conducted at UC Santa Cruz has revealed pay inequity among its faculty. According to the new report, women and minorities are paid less and it takes longer for them to be promoted. Officials say these gaps are attributed to differences between departments. A number of disciplines that have higher pay and promotion growth, including earth and planetary sciences, are dominated by white men. The report has been criticized for looking only at departmental divisions and not academic divisions. A 2011 study looking into pay equity across UCSC’s academic divisions found that female professors were being paid less than expected for their degree, compared to white male professors.
