A Salinas school was put on a lockdown and a manhunt began yesterday morning following an armed robbery and shooting. Officials say the robber entered Star 1 Gas and Taqueria El Kiosko near Williams Road and East Alisal Street around 8. The man then held an employee at gunpoint and demanded cash. When the clerk was unable to open the register, the robber opened fire on him before fleeing the scene. The 33-year-old victim was hospitalized for a non-life-threatening head wound. Los Padres Elementary School was briefly put on lockdown around 10 a.m. as a precaution. The robber is still at large and has been described as a Hispanic male in his twenties. He was last seen wearing a black hooded jacket, blue jeans, and a bandana covering his face. Anyone with information is to contact Salinas police.
