Monterey County Agency Releases Drought Impact Report- 1/28/15 8:30 S.G.

A Monterey County agency has released a report revealing the adverse effects the drought could have on the water supply. The findings, released by the Office of Emergency Services, show the drought could increase levels of contaminants in the water, including arsenic and nitrates. Private water systems and wells are at the highest risk. If the contaminants reach unsafe levels, some residents may have to use bottled water. The report also reveals the drought’s financial impact on county parks. Less water has meant fewer visitors, which has led to lost revenue and closures.
