Monterey Fire Fighters Dominate Overtime Costs- 1/19/15 11:30 S.G.

The Monterey Fire Department earned around $1.5 million in overtime in 2013, according to a recent survey. The findings, released by Transparent California, reveal the city’s firefighters received more overtime costs than most city employees, earning up to $100,000 each. Fire officials say the figures reflect multiple factors, including crew members being paid double, compensating for fire fighters out on medical leave. The department got $1.8 million in overtime in 2012. Figures for last year are not yet available.
