The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Weather Alert for Santa Cruz and Monterey counties. The alert, which went into effect today at 5 p.m. and expires on Wednesday at 3 p.m. is for all low lying coastal areas, due to excessively high tides in the mid to late morning hours. Residents may also expect extreme low tides on these days in the afternoons.
