Bidart Brothers Apple Recall- 1/16/15 7:30 S.G.

A Bakersfield-based company is recalling its apple products due to Listeria contamination. Bidart Brothers Apple Packing has confirmed two strains of the disease have been found at their processing facility. The same strains have been associated with numerous reported cases of Listeria infections, one of which led to the death of 81-year-old Felton resident Shirlee Jean Frey. Frey’s family has since sued Bidart Brothers. In the meantime, the company is recalling its Granny Smith and Gala apple products shipped before December 2nd. These apples may be sold under the brand names “Big B” and “Granny’s Best”. Customers buying either type of apple should ask their retailers if the fruit was supplied by Bidart Brothers.
