Santa Cruz County officials are warning residents of two scams, involving fake checks and telemarketers. One woman reported receiving a check in the mail, with an attached note claiming she was eligible for a $50,000 in a sweepstakes payoff. The fake check came in an envelope that appeared to be from England, but had U.S. postage. In a separate scam, residents have reported being contacted by a company using names such as AB Heating, Quality Air and Indoor Quality Air. The company has been offering a $49 deal only to charge customers thousands of dollars. Residents are urged to contact the District Attorney’s Consumer Affairs office to report scams of this nature.
