Public works and environmental health crews are cleaning a fuel spill polluting Santa Rita Creek in Salinas. Officials say the oil was traced to the Santa Rita Union School District bus yard, where a thief had drilled holes into the gas tanks of two vehicles to steal fuel. The fuel leftover in the tanks spilled into a storm drain leading to the creek. Crews have been on the scene since yesterday morning. Health officials have taken water samples for testing to measure the level of contamination.
