The Carmel River has been redirected to ensure the safety of over 1,500 households. Last week the river was channeled into a river bed designed to bypass tons of sludge behind the San Clemente Dam. This new channel will let workers remove the existing dam without having to worry about a mudslide. The San Clemente Dam Removal Project is estimated to cost $83 million.
