A 45-year-old man, who allegedly hit his father in the head with a hatchet last night, has been arrested and booked into Monterey County Jail. The just before 7 p.m. incident on the 1600 block of Atherton way in Salinas led to law enforcement officers surrounding the home for several hours, before they realized that Steven Ferguson was in the parking lot of the hospital where his father had been taken for treatment. The 69-year-old man was treated for a severe, but non-life-threatening, laceration. Ferguson faces a possible charge of attempted murder.
