The opening day of commercial dungeness crab season was a success around the bay. Saturday marked the official start of the season with most commercial crabbers laying out their crab nets or pots on Friday, and hauling them in early Saturday morning. Fisherman around the Monterey Bay reported good catches. Harbor parking lots were busy with seafood wholesalers negotiating with fishermen. Some local fishermen chose to transport their catches straight to areas like Chinatown hoping to get top dollar on the first catch of the season.
