Santa Cruz County District Attorney Bob Lee passed away this morning. Lee, who was a Santa Cruz native, began in the Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Office as an intern, while he was still in law school at the University of Santa Clara. After earning his juris doctorate in 1984, he spent three years as a prosecutor in Monterey County, before returning to the Santa Cruz County DA’s office in 1988.
He worked as an Assistant District Attorney for fourteen years before being elected the Santa Cruz County District Attorney in 2002, a position he held from that point until his death. Bob Lee, who turned 57-years-old October 12th, is survived by his mother and three younger brothers, as well as his wife Barbara. Services are pending.
Lee had announced earlier this month that his health precluded him serving his next term, scheduled to begin in January. His successor is expected to be appointed by Santa Cruz County Supervisors.
