The Monterey County District Attorney released findings on the fatal shooting of an unarmed suspect. On Friday the DA’s Office stated that two Monterey County deputies acted in self-defense when they shot and killed Hector Chairez Jr. after a car chase. The incident happened in the Big Sur area on March 20th when the deputies tried to pull over a moving van reported stolen. The van attempted to evade the officers, but crashed into a tree. Chairez fled the wreck and was shot after a confrontation in the woods.
