The Natividad Medical Center in Salinas is in the final phase of becoming a Level 2 trauma center. Beginning today, the center will be the acting trauma center for the Monterey County area, meaning that it has been deemed capable of treating all trauma patients except pediatric and burn victims. However, until the official designation, expected in January, medical professionals still have the option of flying patients to trauma centers that have received official Level 2 designations.
