CALIFORNIA APPEALS DEATH PENALTY RULING- 08-22-14 7:30 SG

CALIFORNIA’S ATTORNEY GENERAL WILL APPEAL A RULING ELIMINATING THE DEATH PENALTY.    U.S. DISTRICT JUDGE CORMAC CARNEY RULED THE SENTENCE UNCONSTITUTIONAL LAST MONTH.     JUDGE CARNEY SAID THE PENALTY TAKES TOO LONG TO CARRY OUT, AMOUNTING TO CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT.     ATTORNEY GENERAL KAMALA HARRIS APPEALED THE RULING YESTERDAY (THURS), STATING THE AMOUNT OF TIME TAKEN TO EXECUTE INMATES ENSURES THEY RECEIVE DUE PROCESS.     NO DEATH PENALTIES HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT IN CALIFORNIA SINCE 2006.
