SYRINGE ON BEACH-7/31/14-1916-PMD

SYRINGES CONTINUE TO PLAGUE SANTA CRUZ BEACHES. AT AROUND 9:00 A-M WEDNESDAY,   A USED HYPODERMIC NEEDLE WAS FOUND IN THE AREA OF THE LIFE GUARD TOWER ON COWELL’S BEACH. A JUNIOR LIFE GUARD THEN TOOK THE IMPROPERLY DISPOSED OF SYRINGE TO A SUPERVISING LIFE GUARD, WHO THEN DISPOSED OF THE SHARPS PROPERLY, AND NOTIFIED THE PROPER CHANNELS OF THE INCIDENT. LAST MONTH A 59 YEAR OLD BEACH GOER WAS STUCK BY A NEEDLE WHILE WALKING ON THE SAME BEACH.
