Dead whales in the Monterey Bay – 06/18/14 10:00 S.S.

There are 2 whale carcasses in the Monterey Bay area right now. A necropsy was performed on a 45-foot long adult humpback whale who’s body washed ashore near the Pajaro Dunes last week, and the drifted into the surf after the necropsy was completed. A dead 22 foot long Fin whale was spotted in shallow water near Marina State Beach last week. A necropsy was not possible on the Fin whale, because it has not beached itself. The public is asked to report any dead whales, dolphins, porpoises, and sea turtles to the Long Marine Laboratory at (831) 212-1272.
