CARMEL CONSIDERS TRASH CONTRACT 6-16-14 1725 og

THE CARMEL CITY COUNCIL IS REVIEWING A NEW TRASH COLLECTION CONTRACT. THE COUNCIL IS HOLDING A SPECIAL MEETING TOMORROW (TUES) TO CONSIDER APPROVING A 15-YEAR AGREEMENT WITH GREEN WASTE RECOVERY, A SAN JOSE COMPANY CHOSEN DURING REGIONAL BIDDING PROCESS. IN THE NEW CONTRACT, THE QUARTERLY FRANCHISE FEE PAID BY CARMEL CUSTOMERS WOULD INCREASE AND GREEN WASTE WOULD BE REQUIRED TO HAVE A FULL-TIME BEACH AND VILLAGE SUPERINTENDENT TO REPLACE THE CURRENT PART-TIME POSITION. THESE CHANGES COULD RESULT IN A 14 POINT FOUR PERCENT INCREASE IN RATES FOR BOTH RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL CUSTOMERS. TOMORROW’S (TUES) MEETING WILL TAKE PLACE AT CITY HALL ON MONTE VERDE STREET AT 4:30 P-M.
