TENURE RULED UNCONSTITUTIONAL – 06/11/14 10:33 S.S.

A LOS ANGELES COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT JUDGE HAS RULED THAT CALIFORNIA’S “TENURE PROTECTIONS” FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS ARE UNCONSTITUTIONAL. 9 STUDENTS SUED THE STATE, SAYING THAT TENURE HAS MADE IT VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR SCHOOL PRINCIPALS TO FIRE BAD TEACHERS; WHILE LAWYERS FOR THE TEACHERS SAY THE CHANGE COULD MEAN THAT TEACHERS COULD BE FIRED “ON A WHIM”, AND THAT TENURE HELPED ATTRACT TALENTED TEACHERS TO A POORLY-PAID PROFESSION.
