the santa cruz metropolitan transit district’s proposal to merge a new transit center and main library branch has been rejected. the joint powers authority governs the 10 branch county wide library system. the members of the board cited safety concerns for library goers, especially children and the high bus traffic of a metro center. also at issue is the second story pacific avenue location of the proposal. the group also decided against increasing library hours until a viable new main branch plan and FUNDING is PROCURED.
