CENTRAL COAST USES LESS WATER 2-10-14 1845 OG

A REPORT FROM CALIFORNIA’S WATER MANAGEMENT RESOURCES’ URBAN WATER MANAGEMENT AGENCY SHOWS OF THE 10 REGIONS IN CALIFORNIA, THE CENTRAL COAST, AND SANTA CRUZ COUNTY IN PARTICULAR, HAS THE LOWEST PER CAPITA WATER USAGE THROUGH 2010, THE MOST RECENT DATA SUBMITTED.     THE STATE AVERAGE IS 196 GALLONS PER CAPITA, PER DAY.      THE CENTRAL COAST USES ONLY 147 GALLONS.  SANTA CRUZ COUNTY USES 116 GALLONS PER CAPITA, PER DAY COMPARED TO 144 GALLONS ON THE MONTEREY PENINSULA, AND 146 IN SALINAS.     THESE NUMBERS INCLUDE BOTH RESIDENTIAL AND NON-RESIDENTIAL USAGE, SO INDIVIDUAL HOUSEHOLDS MAY BE EVEN LOWER.     WHILE THESE NUMBERS POINT TO ON-GOING CONSERVATION ALONG THE CENTRAL COAST, IT DOES NOT ADDRESS THE RATIONING NEEDS DUE TO THE RECENT DROUGHT CONDITIONS.
