A runway safety improvement project got underway this week at the Monterey County Airport. Workers will be removing some trees and shrubs on the East end of the airport in an effort to bring it into compliance with new safety regulation standards by next December. The project requires reconfiguring the main runway and relocating two service roads. Changes to the airport hillside are expected to be visible to motorists traveling along Highway 68 coming into and out of Monterey.
