FIRST MEASURABLE RAINS 2-3-14 1720 OG

WHILE WREAKING HAVOC ON CENTRAL COAST HIGHWAYS, SUNDAY’S FIRST DECENT RAINFALL IN MONTHS WAS A WELCOME SIGHT FOR OUR REGION POTENTIALLY FACING A SEVERE WATER SHORTAGE AND MANDATORY CUTBACKS AND RATIONING.     ACCORDING TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE, MONTEREY AND SANTA CRUZ COUNTIES RECEIVED NEARLY HALF AN INCH OF RAIN ON SUNDAY. IT WAS THE MOST THE COUNTIES HAVE SEEN IN A YEAR.

STILL, THE RAINFALL DID LITTLE TO FIX THE WATER SUPPLY ISSUE OVERALL AND PEOPLE ARE STILL ENCOURAGED TO FIND WAYS TO CUT WATER USAGE.     TIPS INCLUDE TAKING SHORTER SHOWERS, WATERING LANDSCAPING LESS, NOT PRE-RINSING DISHES BEFORE USING THE DISHWASHER, AND DOING LARGER LOADS OF LAUNDRY.
