RECENT STUDIES SHOW THE NUMBER OF MONARCH BUTTERFLIES MIGRATING ANNUALLY IS DWINDLING SIGNIFICANTLY.     THE MONARCH BUTTERFLY SANCTUARY IN PACIFIC GROVE, WHICH IS A TEMPORARY STOP IN THE MIGRATION PATTERN FROM THE U-S TO CANADA, HAS SEEN A DROP IN THE NUMBERS YEAR AFTER YEAR.     THIS YEAR, THE NUMBER OF BUTTERFLIES WINTERING IN MEXICO IS THE LOWEST EVER RECORDED.       SCIENTISTS ARE STILL UNCLEAR AS TO THE EXACT REASON FOR THE DECREASE BUT ENTHUSIASTS REMAIN OPTIMISTIC THE MONARCHS WILL CONTINUE TO SHOW UP ON THE CENTRAL COAST.
