Boogey board fatality-1/25/14-2010-PMD

A BOOGEY BOARDER DIED IN SANTA CRUZ FRIDAY AFTERNOON AFTER DISREGARDING WARNINGS.  AT ABOUT 4:30 P-M  RESCUE PERSONNEL ON A PERSONAL WATERCRAFT APPROACHED A BOOGEY BOARDER NEAR LIGHTHOUSE POINT AND WARNED THE MAN OF THE HIGH SURF ADVISORY. 47 YEAR OLD , MOUNTAIN VIEW RESIDENT, JAMES ZENK ASSURED THE LIFEGUARD HE WAS ALRIGHT. A SHORT TIME LATER SANTA CRUZ FIRE DEPARTMENT RESCUE SWIMMERS ALREADY STATIONED IN THE AREA BECAUSE OF THE DANGEROUS SURF, WERE SENT INTO RECUE ZENK  WHO HAD BEEN KNOCKED INTO THE ROCKS BY A LARGE WAVE. 5 SWIMMERS IN ALL WERE NEEDED TO PULL THE MAN FROM THE SURF. ZENK WAS TRANSPORTED TO AN AREA HOSPITAL WERE HE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD. 2 OF THE SWIMMERS WERE TREATED FOR INJURIES AND FATIGUE. AN AUTOPSY WILL BE PERFORMED TO DETERMINE THE EXACT CAUSE OF DEATH.
