I’ntl Shark Study/Monterey Bay 01-24-14 13:00 av

A new international shark study was published this week. The director for the Shark Pelagic Research Center at Moss Landing, David Ebert, began assessing the status of sharks and rays, along with 22 authors, 10-years ago.   The research, which was published Tuesday, found that 40% of the species were data deficient, and many of them were not named.   The report also found that of the 1,200 known shark and ray species, a quarter are threatened due to over-fishing.  The research helps to provide conservation efforts for the unknown shark species.
