After five years of leading Santa Cruz City Schools, Superintendent Gary Bloom will be retiring.     Bloom, who is 60-years of age, announced his retirement to trustees and staff during a board meeting yesterday.     The decision comes at the end of a five year commitment he made after being hired in April of 2009.   Bloom is being credited for his role in stabilizing the budget, eliminating the achievement gap, modernizing information technology and supporting green policy making.    The Board of Trustees will be determining the process of Bloom’s replacement.
