Monterey County received an upgraded status for it’s response to emergencies and accidents involving dangerous chemicals and spills. The Monterey County Joint Hazardous Material or “Haz-mat” Response Team, was awarded a type two status after a recent inspection was conducted by the California Office of Emergency Services Special Operations Division. The highest ranking is type three. The rating is based on response capability, pre-established training, equipment and staffing resources.
