Several Monterey County Fire agencies will receive Federal funding in an effort to provide better Emergency service to the community.   5.4-million dollars was awarded, under the “SAFER” Program, to the Cities of Salinas, Hollister and Greenfield by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, also known as FEMA.  The program, which stands for the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response, helps to support the hiring, recruitment and retention of firefighters.   Salinas received 2.9 million dollars in SAFER funds, while Greenfield received nearly $300,000 with Hollister being awarded 2.2 million dollars.
