Salinas council members appointed a new city attorney yesterday.    Former Assistant City Attorney, Christopher Callihan replaces Vanessa Vallarta, who resigned last month to accept a gubernatorial appointment to the Monterey County Superior Court Bench.  Callihan is a 40-year old Salinas resident who has worked in the City Attorney’s Office since September 2003 as Deputy City Attorney.  He became Senior Deputy City Attorney in 2007 and was promoted to Assistant City Attorney in September of 2010.   Council members approved Callihan’s 3-year pact in a 4-to-2 vote.
