FOR THE PAST TWO DECADES, ANNUAL HOMICIDES IN THE UNITED STATES, HAVE FALLEN AT A STEADY RATE. THE END OF 2011 WAS THE NATION’S LOWEST LEVEL SINCE 1963, 9-POINT-3 PER 100-THOUSAND RESIDENTS IN 1992 TO 4-POINT-7 IN 2011. IN CONTRAST TO THE NATIONAL FIGURE, THE CITY OF SALINAS LAST YEAR HAD 16 HOMICIDES FOR EVERY 100-THOUSAND RESIDENTS. POLICE IN 2013 REPORTED 26 HOMICIDES, WHICH IS SLIGHTLY LOWER THAN THE RECORD HIGH OF 29, REPORTED IN 2009. THESE TOTALS INCLUDE D-U-I VEHICULAR DEATHS, AS WELL WEAPONS RELATED DEATHS.
