A project that studies low income workers in Santa Cruz County will kick off next year. UCSC Researchers along with two other agencies, hope to survey about a thousand people who work in areas such as restaurants, hotels, car washes, and off–the-book-jobs, to provide a snapshot on low-wage working conditions. The project is expected to shed light and provide a bigger picture about who does the work and sunder what conditions. Researchers will also look at health and safety issues, benefits, employment stability and whether a job provides full time hours. The project is expected to take about a year to complete.
