First Step of SC Microchip Proposal Passes 12-10-13 07:30 av

A mandatory microchipping proposal was passed yesterday by the Santa Cruz County Animal Services Board.    The next step requires a vote by the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors, followed by a vote by each city in the county.  Opponents of the mandate say the proposal could increase shelter euthanasia rates by prompting some pet owners to not claim their lost animals for fear of a penalty.   While proponents believe the microchip is an invaluable tool in reuniting lost pets with their owners.
