Tatum’s Garden Grand Opening 12-09-13 07:30 av

A Salinas playground, designed specifically for children with disabilities, officially opened this weekend.   Several hundred people turned out Saturday at Sherwood Park in Salinas to attend the Grand Opening of Tatum’s Garden.  The facility was named after 3-year old Salinas resident Tatum Bakker, who was born with Spina Bifida.  The playground is the first fully-inclusive, wheelchair accessible playground in Monterey county.   The City of Salinas donated the land on which the playground was built (by volunteers, using lots of donated materials and equipment).  Fundraisers for the All-inclusive park raised about 1.5 million dollars towards it’s construction goal of 1.2-million.
