Buoy Removal Proposal 11-25-13 13:00 av

The U.S. Coast Guard is proposing to remove a one-mile buoy at the Santa Cruz Small Craft Harbor.  Officials say factors such as technological advances s have made many old buoys and lighthouses obsolete.   The buoy, which is located south of the mouth of the harbor, is one of 16 navigational markers the Coast Guard is proposing to abandon.   Buoys at Moss Landing, Ano Nuevo and Pillar Point are also on the list.  The buoy would be replaced by a digital navigation marker, requiring boaters to have computerized navigation equipment as a result.
