A man who was seen pistol whipping another man last night at a downtown Santa Cruz bar, is being sought. Police were on the scene when a fight between two men broke out at 10:40 in front of the Catalyst Bar on the 1,000 block of Pacific Avenue. An officer began to approach the men to stop the fight, when one of the men pulled out a .45-caliber semi automatic handgun and began hitting the other man in the head with it, before pointing the gun at him. The suspect fled and was not found. Police later located the gun found under a parked car in a nearby parking lot. The suspect is described as a stocky black man, 5-foot-10 who was last seen wearing a white dress shirt with blue and red stripes and blue jeans. The victim meanwhile, refused medical treatment.
