An accident that killed a 40-year old Santa Cruz cyclist was caused after the driver of the vehicle that struck the man, said he fell asleep at the wheel.   The incident occurred Saturday at 11:30 a.m. when a 63-year old man driving a Tesla, drove into a group of cyclists riding in the opposite direction on Highway 1 near Dimeo Lane, and fatally struck one of the cyclists, Josh Alper.   Police say the impact of the crash caused Alper to go head-first into the Tesla’s windshield.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  Meanwhile the driver of the Tesla cooperated with investigators and was not arrested.
