A Central Coast wastewater treatment facility has been recognized among the nation’s leading green power users.  For the first time, the City of Santa Cruz was named 23rd on the U.S. Environmental Protection agency’s top 30 onsite list of the largest users of green energy.  The facility generates over 7-million kilo-watt hours of green power a year from on-site biogas and solar energy systems.   The EPA says the faciltiy’s annual use of green power is equal to avoiding the carbon dioxide emissions of nearly 1,100 passenger vehicles per-year, or the emissions from the electricity use of 800-average American homes annually.
