Salinas police are investing a rash of fires that broke out yesterday. The events started around 11:15 a.m. near Boronda and Rider Roads in East Salinas when firefighters responded to 2 separate grassfires. Soon after there was another report of 3 fires on Natividad Creek Park behind the soccer complex. Officials say other fires were reported between Cottonwood and Nogal Drives before another fire broke out near Virginia Rocca Bartton Elementary School about an hour later. No arrests have been made, however police say a person was seen running away from the third and fourth fires.
