FIREFIGHTERS IN SANTA CRUZ BATTLED MULTIPLE BLAZES THAT BROKE OUT THROUGH OUT THE DAY YESTERDAY.   THE FIRST REPORT CAME IN AT 3 A.M. OF A WILDLAND BLAZE AT U-C-S-C THAT BURNED AN ACRE OF BRUSH NEAR HELLER AND MEYERS DRIVE.  THE BLAZE WAS CONTAINED AFTER 90 MINUTES.  THE CAUSE IS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN STARTED BY A CAMPFIRE.    AT 12:30 CREWS WERE ON THE SCENE OF A STRUCTURE FIRE ON CHANDLER LANE IN WATSONVILLE THAT CHARRED 2 ACRES, DESTROYED A HOME AND THREATENED AN ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD.  OVER HALF A DOZEN FIRE ENGINES FROM 3 DISTRICTS JOINED SEVERAL AIR TANKERS AND A HELICOPTER TO FIGHT THE BLAZE. NO ONE WAS HOME WHEN THE FIRE BROKE OUT, THE CAUSE HAS YET TO BE DETERMINED.  IT WAS CONTAINED BY 3:15 P.M.  FINALLY, A 1-AND-A-HALF-ACRE BLAZE WAS REPORTED AT 1:50 P.M. IN BIG BASIN.  AIR AND GROUND CREWS ARRIVED AT LODGE ROAD AND HIGHWAY 236.  CREWS WERE ON SCENE UNTIL 10 P.M. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED AND THE CAUSE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION.
