THE MARINA POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL RECEIVE A $838,000 FEDERAL GRANT FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF COMMUNITY ORIENTED POLICING SERVICES.   THE CITY OF MARINA WAS RECOGNIZED AS THE ONLY CENTRAL COAST LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY TO RECEIVE THE “COPS” AWARD.   THE DEPARTMENT WILL NOW BE ABLE TO HIRE AND FUND TWO OFFICER POSITIONS OVER A SPAN OF THREE YEARS.   THE DEPARTMENT RECEIVED THE AWARD BASED ON IT’S FISCAL NEEDS, LOCAL CRIME RATES AND PROJECTED POLICING PLANS.
