THE MONTEREY BAY UNIFIED AIR POLLUTION CONTROL DISTRICT WILL HOLD A MEETING TOMORROW, SEPTEMBER 17TH, FROM 6-8 P.M. AT HIGHLAND PARK TO EDUCATE RESIDENTS ABOUT A VOLUNTARY PROGRAM TO REDUCE SMOKE FROM WOOD-BURNING STOVES AND FIREPLACES.     ON A LIMITED NUMBER OF DAYS FROM NOVEMBER TO FEBRUARY,  LEVELS OF PARTICLES FROM SMOKE EXCEED FEDERAL STANDARDS FOR CLEAN AIR, POSING A SIGNIFICANT HEALTH RISK FOR PEOPLE WITH ASTHMA OR OTHER RESPIRATORY DISEASES.     THE AIR DISTRICT IS LOOKING FOR  RESIDENTS TO VOLUNTARILY USE ALTERNATIVE HEATING SOURCES ON THOSE DAYS FORECASTED TO HAVE UNHEALTHY AIR.
